Quick Look at Van Gogh And His Influences at the Columbia, SC Museum of Art

by D. Lanier Shook                        October 30, 2019

Last week we shared about the Van Gogh Exhibit at the Museum of Art in Columbia, South Carolina. Well, things aligned properly and this past weekend I was able to visit the exhibit with my parents. It was a real privilege for them to see works of art that the Nazis would have stolen if they’d had the opportunity. This is a quick look at a little bit of what we saw.

This is me standing next to an actual sketch by Vincent Van Gogh.

This is the sketch. Notice the crosshatching in the background and the teacup and its handle.

The exhibit wasn’t just remarkable for its Van Gogh pieces. It very effectively directed the visitor through his artistic influences and narrated the journey very well. Here’s a great example.

And here’s the narration connected to that painting.

And that’s the first look at the Van Gogh exhibit. Not only do I intend to go back, but I’ll tell you even more later. Stay tuned.
