Springtime is a great time to turn over a new leaf — in more ways than one. If you’re interested in physical fitness or the outdoors, then a 5K may be what you’re looking for. A 5K is about three miles long and can be a great way to connect with other folks, help a cause, and — most importantly — get a t-shirt. Here are several 5Ks in the local area you might be interested in. Its also worth mentioning most events also feature less strenuous events for the smaller racers among us.
Take Flight 5K
This 5K is located at the Greenville Downtown Airport in Greenville, South Carolina and lets you run or walk down the runway. The event raises money for a community park. It starts at 8:30 on May 23, but if you’re interested you should click here to visit their website.
18th Annual Biltmore/Kiwanis 15K/5K Classic
This race takes place on the grounds of the historic Biltmore Estate in Asheville and benefits the Kiwanis Children’s Charities. It will be on Sunday, May 17 and you can click here for all the information. There’s also a video on the site of the race course. NOTE: This race is limited to the first 1100 registrants, so hurry up and click.
Bear Wallow Beast 5K
If you’re interested in pushing yourself this May 3 race sounds like the 5K for you. Its located between Asheville and Chimney Rock in the village of Gerton and benefits the Carolina Mountain Land Conservancy. Click here to visit the website and find out more.
Blue Plum Fast 5K
June is a still month and a half away, but Johnson City, Tennessee’s Blue Plum Festival and its race is worth mentioning. You get a tour of the historic downtown along with live music along the route. Click here to find out more.
LUNGe Forward 5K
While we’re discussing June, don’t forget the LUNGe Forward 5K Run, Walk & Rally in Charlotte on June 6, 2015. This event benefits the fight against lung cancer and you can find out more by clicking here.
“Love Your Headlights” 5K & 5.5 miler
This event benefit Shirley’s Angel’s, a Charlotte outreach for those diagnosed with breast cancer. It takes place on May 16 and you can get all the details by clicking here to visit their website.
