ROADTRIP: Bristol’s Veterans War Memorial

By D. Lanier Shook                                   May 26, 2014

Today is Memorial Day. This is the day we have set aside to pause and collectively remember those who paid the ultimate price for the freedom we enjoy. Obviously, this is something we need to do every day of the year wherever we are.

This is one reason Veteran’s Memorials are so important. As you travel you’ll pass many Veteran’s Memorials and that is the time to pause and remember. Its very important to pause and remember the sacrifices that give up the liberty to travel. This is also a great opportunity to teach your children what sacrifice really means, to teach them history, and to teach them an appreciation for real heroes.

That’s why you need to know about Bristol, Tennessee’s Veteran’s War Memorial. Bristol is only about an hour and a half north of Asheville with great music and shopping. If you’re in Bristol you need to swing by this moving War Memorial. You don’t even have to stop, just take State Street to Martin Luther King Jr Boulevard. Turn north by the old train station, then take the first left on Cumberland Street. The War Memorial is located on the corner of Cumberland and Lee, so just turn right on Lee to see the entire Memorial. Here are a few photos of the moving memorial.
