If you or someone you know hunt with ‘coon dogs, then this article is for you. This is a tradition that dates back hundreds of years and is celebrated locally at the Saluda Coon Dog Day Festival. (Click here to visit Saluda’s page for that Festival.) Its a great event to attend if you want to join over 10,000 people for food, music, street dancing, and a 5K.
If you hunt with a coon dog, you’ll probably be interested in the 49th Annual Grand American Coon Hunt. Its held each January just east of Columbia, SC in the town of Orangeburg. This is when the coon dogs show their stuff in two night hunts. You’ll want to click here to learn about entry fees, regulations, and prizes. Its pretty clear that you have to sign up ahead of time.
Some of the prizes include tracking systems, dog boxes, gift certificate, jackets, and lights. It looks like the event is limited to 350 dogs, so you’ll want to have your entry postmarked by December 10 of this year. Go to the site and find out all the information there.
