ARTS AND ENTERTAINMENT: Valdese Family Friday Nights

By D. Lanier Shook                      September 7, 2013

You’ve got a problem. The North Carolina Mountain State Fair only runs through next Sunday. Fortunately you can still find awesome music — for free — within easy driving distance. I’m talking about Family Friday Nights in the picturesque town of Valdese, just an hour east of Asheville.

If you’ve never been to Valdese you are missing alot. First, click here to read an article about the town and the people who founded it, then click here to read about the town’s great tourist destination called Myra’s, and then click here to read about the awesome hot dog I had there. There’s alot to do in this little mountain town and they’re going to help you once the Fair is no longer with us.

The Family Friday nights are an incredible concert series Valdese puts on and there are two more on the 20th and 27th. So, even though the Fair will be over you can scoot over to Valdese on the 2oth and catch the sound of Shakedown. Then a week later you can go back and hear Exit 54. To hear the two groups click here to visit Valdese’s Family Friday Nights page. You’ll also want to click here to visit their tourism page and click here to stay connected on their Facebook page.
