LIFESTYLES: Road Closings And Construction On Brevard Road

By D. Lanier Shook                                 June 18, 2013

If you live in West Asheville or western Buncombe County you’ve probably traveled down Brevard Road sometime within the past month. If you live in West Asheville you probably drive down it every day. There are two road closures you need to know about.

First, Pond Road near the Farmer’s Market is closed to through traffic. This road runs from Sardis Road across to Brevard Road. It’s a beautiful, winding, country lane that residents can use to avoid congestion during busy traffic hours. But don’t plan on using it for the next few months.

If you want more detailed information then you should click here for a really good article by the Asheville Citizen-Times. If you aren’t quite sure where Pond Road is, it’s located on US 191 just south of Farmer’s Market and sits directly between Harmony Motors and Asheville Ford Lincoln. Forever Friend Lane — home of The Asheville Humane Society’s offices — turns off Pond Road, but you shouldn’t have trouble getting there.

The second road closure involves bridge work on the bridge that crosses I-26 between Jim Barkeley Toyota and the Biltmore Square Mall. According to the large flashing signs around the bridge it will closed from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. beginning June 24. I believe this may be part of the work described in a Citizen-Times article you can read by clicking here.

So whether you travel these roads daily, weekly, rarely, or are just passing through you need to keep this in mind. Which is why we all need to leave early. That way we’ll have the time to be patient when we’re on the roads this summer.
