HAPPENINGS at the Buncombe County Library

I was chatting with my uncle recently and he made a very important point. If you want to learn how much a community values its young people look at its parks, schools, and libraries. As a teacher, successful father of two sons, and former school superintendent he is well placed to make this judgment. I am pleased to say that Asheville ranks very well in that list. An email I received from the Buncombe County libraries proves this point.

The library has a ton of stuff going on this month and every month. In addition to providing incredible literary and audiovisual resources the hard working staff bring us enriching events. I’m going to touch on a few that peaked my interest, but for a full list click here to visit their website. I’m going to recommend you sign up for their email newsletter to stay up to date.

Most of the libraries have book clubs that meet each week to discuss authors. They also have story times for younger children. I’ve walked by a few of these in progress and the kids were haing a blast. And Pack Library’s Computer labs offer a variety of computer classes. For more information about all of these just click here to go to the library website.

Now for the ones I thought were particularly interesting.

Author Ron Rash will be at the Leicester Library on Thursday, August 16.

Local naturalist Sharon Mammoser will be at the Weaverville Library on Tuesday August 14.

RoseLynn Katz will perform a one person play The Devil Touched My Tongue at the Enka-Candler Library on Tuesday August 14.
