Here’s Part Two of our July Fourth Celebration.
This is an interesting passage, to me, since here the delegates appeal to the “Supreme Judge of the World.” I think everyone believes there is a Supreme Judge of the World. We all say ‘that’s not right’ or refer to karma. Is there such a thing as karam? Yes. What comes around definitely goes around.
We live in a time when many of us feel powerless. We feel powerless at the pump, at the cash register, at the ballot box, at the newspaper. Let’s all remember there is a “Supreme Judge of the World.” Whomever or Whatever you refer to this entity as its reassuring to know It is there.
Oookay, so before I wax even more philosophical, here’s the Second Part in our series. And, just as a reminder, it is actually the last part in the Declaration. I’m kinda doin’ a countdown thing here.
We, therefore, the Representatives of the united States of America, in General Congress,
Assembled, appealing to the Supreme Judge of the world for the rectitude of our intentions, do,
in the Name, and by Authority of the good People of these Colonies, solemnly publish and
declare, That these United Colonies are, and of Right ought to be Free and Independent States;
that they are Absolved from all Allegiance to the British Crown, and that all political
contract Alliances, establish Commerce, and to do all other Acts and Things which Independent
States may of right do. And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the
protection of divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and
our sacred Honor.
